Teaming Up To Benefit Toys For Tots

For the past 13 years Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department has been a partner with the United States Marines Toys for Tots Program. This year, G & C Express Tire and Auto Service at 14008 Willard Road in Chantilly, Virginia will serve as a hub for businesses who want to help collect toys. Not Just a Horse Hospital: Equine Medical Center at the Forefront of Technology

For the local equine community, there is only one medical center in the area that has all the essentials needed to restore a horse to good health.

Virginia Tech’s Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center near Leesburg has been offering specialty care, 24/7 emergency treatment and diagnostic services for 33 years. With a medical staff of about 40, a 70,000-square-foot main building, access to the latest advances in equine medical treatment, the center continues to grow in size and prominence.

The Near Future of Drones in Loudoun and Beyond

Loudoun County is working to establish itself as an early adopter in the unmanned aerial systems space by attracting companies that manufacture, operate and support drones. Although the industry focus is new for many jurisdictions, Loudoun has already had almost a dozen drone-related startups move to or start here in this county, due to our close ties to the Virginia FAA test sites, high-tech workforce and local manufacturing relationships.

Man of La Mancha, tells the story of the “mad” knight, Don Quixote, as a play within a play, performed by Cervantes and his fellow prisoners as he awaits a hearing with the Spanish Inquisition. Based on Miguel de Cervantes’ classic book Don Quixote, Man of La Mancha has been deemed as one of the all-time great musicals of the American stage.

Fairfax County Staff Lead Tour of Restored Stream in Lake Fairfax Park

Reston, Va. – On, Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, staff from the Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services and Fairfax County Park Authority joined Park Authority Board members, contractors, and residents for a brief tour of the recently completed stream restoration project in Lake Fairfax Park. The project team discussed the benefits to the park and surrounding environment, which include reduced flooding hazards, higher water quality, a new vehicular bridge, a stabilized pedestrian bridge, and access points for environmental education programs.

Salad Science – A Sustainable Project Based Learning Opportunity.

With on-site support from an ANS Naturalist, students grow lettuce while learning about plant science and nutrition through a variety of sustainable hands-on lessons. Students log data, make predications, record observations and track plant growth in a journal. Geared for grades PreK to 5th, the project culminates with a harvest and salad party including healthy toppings and dressings.
