Briar Woods High School will host its second annual We’re All Human Luminary Walk Oct. 4.
The first walk, held April 2018, was created by Advanced Marketing, Briar Woods DECA, We’re All Human and Sources of Strength. All are invited to help shine a light on the problem of suicide and mental health awareness, school officials said.
Multiple co-curricular clubs, sports teams and community members will come together to focus on the Sources of Strength and how everyone can use different strengths to improve their lives and reach out for help.
The Briar Woods family wants to send the message that “no one is alone and it does get better” with the event.
The event is free and includes family fun activities. Gates open at 7 p.m, and the event concludes with a silent luminary walk at 8:45 p.m., in honor, support or memory of those suffering.
In April, walk organizers sold shirts and luminaries and were able to donate more than $1,000 to the local Ryan Bartel Foundation, which raises awareness about suicide and mental health issues. Organizers hope to see that support continue in October. Anyone with questions about the event can contact Briar Woods DECA advisor Renae Sterling at firstname.lastname@example.org.
