Multi-Sector Collaboration is Key to Addressing Pediatric Obesity

YOU can get involved today to Support Healthy Living for Families!

The Loudoun Pediatric Obesity Coalition (LPOC) is an energetic, vibrant coalition working throughout Loudoun County to address pediatric obesity.

Why is pediatric obesity an important issue and how did LPOC evolve?

LPOC was formed in March 2013 with a goal of planning a community-centered, evidence-based approach to the obesity epidemic affecting Loudoun County low-income children. It’s hard to believe, in such a fast growing community with the highest incomes nationwide, that pediatric obesity is such a serious issue.  Low-income families have pediatric obesity rates two times higher than the county’s population as a whole.

LPOC now has more than 55 members from over 30 organizations including: Loudoun Health Department, Northern Virginia Family Services, George Mason University, Loudoun Hunger Relief, Connect Northern Virginia and many more committed to addressing pediatric obesity.  The Coalition meets monthly and is facilitating strong community multi-sector collaboration.  The Coalition Chair, Ondrea McIntyre-Hall, recently presented an inspiring overview to the Loudoun Chamber on LPOC activities and programs to help develop healthy and thriving kids throughout our community.
